How Best Care handles personal information.

Personal information is data that can identify you. Depending on the service, this may include:

• Name, address, ID number, email address and telephone details.
• Gender, family status, date of birth and registration numbers.
• Financial and banking information, including account numbers where relevant.
• Your relationship to a policyholder, insured person or claimant.

• Directly from you when you complete a product application form, electronically or on paper.
• Indirectly when you interact with us electronically.
• Directly from public databases or indirectly through interactions with third parties.

• Communicate with you and others as part of our business, including important policy, term, condition and administrative information.
• Consider, provide and service insurance and assistance services, including claim assessment, processing, settlement and, where relevant, claim disputes.
• Prevent, detect and investigate fraud, money laundering, crime and other commercial risks.
• Carry out market research, analysis and satisfaction surveys; resolve complaints; and handle data-access or correction requests.
• Meet contractual, legal and regulatory obligations, including applicable tax, anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorism requirements.
• Establish and defend legal rights; protect Best Care, its insurance business partners, clients and others; and pursue available remedies or limit damage.

Best Care may record and monitor communications to verify instructions, analyse and improve client service, and support training and quality purposes. You may refuse to provide personal information, but that can limit our ability to provide the requested financial services.

Best Care will market to you only in accordance with legal obligations and your stated marketing preference, using the communication method you chose. You may ask us in writing to stop or start marketing messages. If Best Care uses a third-party data provider, it will seek assurance that the provider obtained the required consent to share information with Best Care.

Best Care may disclose personal information with your consent; where required by law, a court order or tax-reporting obligation; where necessary to protect a legitimate or public interest; or where required to protect Best Care, its clients or business partners. Where necessary to protect the public interest, specific client debt information may be disclosed to credit bureaus or debt-collection agencies.

Best Care uses physical, electronic and managerial safeguards intended to prevent unauthorised access to or disclosure of information. Information is retained only for as long as needed for the purpose collected or as required by law, tax legislation or statutory obligations, including anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorism requirements. When it is no longer required, Best Care will take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.

You may request reasonable access to personally identifiable information by contacting Best Care. The notice provides for access within 30 days at no cost. If access cannot be provided in that period, Best Care will provide a date for delivery; if access is denied, it will explain why.

Privacy disputes and the terms of this notice are governed by the laws of South Africa. The supplied notice states that such disputes are to be arbitrated in South Africa, subject to any limitation on damages contained in an applicable agreement. This notice may be amended as the organisation or its products change; an updated privacy notice is available on request.
